18th Century Hats

The hats found on these pages are all interpreations based on years of research of original hats in musuem collections as well as those hats depicted in 18th century portraits and print media. The hats are all covered in silk, and all work is done by hand. You will also notice there are no flowers attached around the crown of hats. Flowers as decoration appear in French Fashion Plates around the very late 1770s and early 1780s. The most common deoration for a hat during the 3rd Quarter of the 18th Century is ribbon or self fabric poufs or/and ruching. Silkr ibbon ties are placed underneath the crown on the brim.
